Finedale Construction is owned and managed by Malcolm and Scarlett Blakey, a father and daughter team combining Malcolm’s vast experience of the construction sector with Scarlett’s enthusiasm, creativity and drive to implement new techniques. This provides a strong platform for constructing solid, well-built schemes with flashes of fresh, innovative design.
Finedale Construction works independently as a Main Contractor or Developer and in collaboration with others on Joint Ventures. We pride ourselves on offering a total package that delivers individual, design-focused projects for clients who want the best when it comes to professionalism, quality and those all-important finishing touches.
Finedale Construction makes available where possible to integrate an awareness for the wildlife around us, often disturbed during Construction. We provide Insect Hotels, Hedgehogs Houses and Bird Boxes within each development that are self-maintaining once initiated and offer the opportunity to act as an educational opportunity for small family members and interest for everyone.
In certain developments, subject to space, we also provide an allotment that the homeowners will all have access to and manage themselves as a community.
As a family-owned business, Finedale Construction believes in forging strong, respectful relationships with our staff, suppliers, contractors, professional bodies and clients, to ensure professional standards are maintained throughout. We operate a preferred sub-contractor scheme that monitors and assesses health and safety and the quality standards we expect.
We manage every project individually, providing you with the very best expert advice. As a team, we are committed to being fully conversant with current health and safety and building regulations via ongoing communications with LABC and other professional bodies. We ensure that your project is delivered to an exceptional standard through our thorough quality control, which meets your total satisfaction and budget.

Malcolm Blakey
Managing Director

I have direct responsibility for the business, using my vast experience building both commercial and residential developments over the last 40+ years.
Working closely with the construction team, I ensure we are working efficiently and effectively whilst liaising closely with building control and local planning departments, adhering to the set parameters on each project we work on, providing ongoing support and knowledge to our site personnel.
Although primarily construction-based, I also work closely with our business development team assisting with new scheme viability and set up. With my years of experience, I can provide the link between external agents, funders and investors.
Scarlett Blakey
Company Director
Fiancé, Daughter and very busy bride to be
I take the central role in directing the company, developing and building our business model aligning projects with our objectives, and managing the business daily.
I assist in the generation of new business, acting as the principal contact for our funders, investors and clients.
Having a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art, I initially worked in Design and Development within the Construction Industry. I am passionate about infusing my artistic and creative knowledge applying a practical, proactive and professional approach into an industry that is often slow to accept innovative practices.
Helen Blakey
Operations Manager
Wife, Mother, Grandmother
I work in conjunction with the Head Office and the site teams organising and assisting with various functions concerning the day to day running of the offices and procedural matters.
I act as a Liaison between Head Office and the various sites, which often provides interesting challenges and encounters!!
Karen McSloy
Financial Controller
Wife, Mother and secret raver (in the name of exercise)
I work as Financial Controller for the company – as it says on the Tin I control all things finance!
We are a small selective team, but I love the variety of the role from daily cashflow, weekly and monthly payroll, budgeting and producing reports for the Management team and anything in between! The role can be challenging at times, and adapting to change at short notice is key.

Martyn Shepherd
Quantity Surveyor
Husband Father and very keen cyclist
I assist in costing and creating quants for both clients and our company. I use my experience and industry knowledge to ensure that all parameters of each project are carefully considered. I also work with the site team carrying out an array of responsibilities, including the procurement of subcontractors and products to surveying completed works.
I work closely with Karen in accounts monitoring budgets, ensuring that we do not exceed our forecasted costings, we keep a close eye on cash flow to facilitate a smooth build programme.
I have worked with the family for several years, and I can honestly say I enjoy my job and the company's flexibility – I can confidently say I have a good work-life balance.

Our strong network of Partners has been established through flexibility in our approach to each venture and our commitment to ‘realising’ each project whilst following our Ethos.
We work very closely with the efficacious Interior Design company Ophelia-Blake.
Ophelia-Blake very much follows a work ethic similar to ourselves. Having collaborated on several projects together, we trust in their ability to produce interiors that fully reflect and exceed our client's requirements. They also develop schemes that are innovative, creative, and put forward that promote easy execution.
We work with many leading professional and industry bodies including Hodsons Architects, LABC, ABC+ CITB apprenticeships and The Doghouse. We are continually looking for opportunities to develop relationships with landowners, investors, banks and clients.
